Your Vote is Your Voice, Use It

Voting is an act of faith to partner with God to establish His Kingdom on earth (Matthew 6:10). Government plays a vital role in maintaining law and order, and good governance reflects Jesus’ reign of justice and peace (Isaiah 9:6).

The upcoming 2025 Canadian General Election, scheduled for April 28, 2025, will determine the next Prime Minister and fill all 343 seats in the House of Commons. This election, taking place less than four years after the last federal vote in September 2021, is a unique opportunity for Canadians to exercise their democratic right and select the next government. With pressing national and global challenges at the forefront, this election is pivotal for our generation.

As Christ’s ambassadors, Christians play a crucial role in electing leaders who uphold values aligned with God’s principles. Through the Holy Spirit, we have access to divine wisdom (1 Corinthians 2:16, John 16:13) and should use this to make informed decisions that shape the nation’s future.

How to Prepare for the 2025 Canadian General Election

  1. Research Candidates and Parties
Prayerfully review the platforms of parties and candidates in your Riding (Electoral District). Visit their websites, follow their social media, and watch media appearances. Elections Canada will publish the official list of candidates for each Riding by Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
  2. Understand the Election Process
In Canada’s first-past-the-post system, the candidate with the most votes in each Riding wins a seat in Parliament. The party that wins the most seats typically forms the federal government, and its leader becomes Prime Minister. Parliament also includes the Governor General (representing the monarch) and 105 appointed senators.
  3. Watch the Leadership Debates
Party leaders will debate in French on April 16 (9 PM ET) and in English on April 17 (7 PM ET). Watch the Debates live on national TV to hear party positions firsthand and solidify your voting decision.

You are eligible to vote if you are a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old by April 28, 2025 and can provide proof of identity and address. Watch the special Victory Podcast episode below where we have invited some friends to discuss the importance of voting as Canadians and believers:

No political party or candidate is perfect. However, by seeking God’s wisdom (James 1:5) and carefully evaluating policies, you can make a prayerful and informed choice. Avoid being swayed by media sensationalism or candidates who exploit religious or moral rhetoric without true substance.

See you at the polls!
